UFC CEO Dana White has confirmed that former featherweight champion Ilia Topuria is being lined up to face either Islam Makhachev or Charles Oliveira in a high-stakes lightweight bout at UFC 317, scheduled for 28 June in Las Vegas.
White addressed Topuria’s comments at a press conference on Thursday after the fighter revealed on Spanish talk show El Hormiguero that he expects to face either the reigning lightweight champion or the top-ranked contender in his next outing.
“Yeah, there’s a lot of moving parts right now and yeah, that’s pretty accurate,” White said when asked about Topuria’s remarks.
He did not confirm whether the bout would be for the official title, an interim belt, or a contender eliminator, depending on Makhachev’s availability.

Topuria, who vacated his featherweight title earlier this year to pursue a second championship, has long expressed interest in competing at 155 pounds.
His next move appears to hinge on the outcome of UFC 315, where Makhachev’s teammate Belal Muhammad will defend the welterweight title against Jack Della Maddalena.
A win for Della Maddalena could draw Makhachev up to welterweight, opening the door for a Topuria-Oliveira clash at lightweight instead.
The UFC has yet to formally announce the UFC 317 main event, but all indications suggest Topuria’s lightweight debut will come against one of the division’s elite.
Whether it’s Makhachev or Oliveira, the bout would mark Topuria’s bid to become a two-division champion—something he has publicly stated was promised by the UFC.
Saturday’s UFC 315 main event is expected to determine how the UFC’s lightweight and welterweight title picture will take shape heading into the summer.
