Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the team for India's tour of England will be announced in two weeks in a conversation with India Today. The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, is anticipated to meet and discuss possible selections prior to the Indian Premier League final.
However, Saikia was silent when asked if senior campaigners Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would be included in the highly anticipated tour of England, saying the selectors would make that decision.
India's new World Test Championship cycle will begin with five Test matches in England from June 20 to August 4. India will be eager to create an early impression after missing out on making it to the WTC final for the first time in three editions.
Starting on May 30, India's "A" team will play the England Lions in three four-day matches. As early as May 25, some of the Test regulars are anticipated to go to England as part of the A tour.
However, they are coming off two straight Test series losses, so it looks to be a difficult test. India got thrashed 1-3 in Australia after suffering a historic 0–3 thumping at home against New Zealand. The Indian team's weaknesses were made clear by the tour to Australia, as senior players Rohit and Kohli were not playing well.
Although Rohit scored 164 runs in eight games throughout the 2024–25 season, Kohli was inconsistent and only scored 85 runs in the final four Test matches, even though he scored a century in the series opener in Perth. Rohit further emphasized that his decision to skip the fifth and final Test match in Australia did not signify his retirement from Test cricket.
