Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were defeated by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. CSK were aiming to chase down a mammoth target of 214. A lot ot depended on their young South African batter Dewald Brevis, who was in good form in their last few games. However, he was given out despite not being out, and was not allowed to review the umpire's decision as well.
In the first ball that Brevis faced against Lungi Ngidi, the bowler delivered a full toss towards his leg stump, which hit his pads on the full. The umpire raised his finger. He was not allowed to review his decision, despite the replays showing that the ball clearly missed the leg stump.

Why Dewald Brevis Was Not Allowed To Review

A batter can only review a decision by the on-field umpire 15 seconds after the decision is taken. If he takes a review after the 15-second timer is over, then that will be considered null and void.
Brevis took a run after the on-field umpire declared him out. He then proceeded to have a long chat with Ravindra Jadeja at the non-striker's end. After that, he signalled for a review. By then the 15-second timer was over, and hence his review was not sent to the third umpire.
The South African was thus removed for a golden duck.

RCB Seal Thrilling Win

RCB batted first and got off to a great start with a 97-run stand for the opening wicket between Jacob Bethell and Virat Kohli. While Bethell scored 53, Kohli slammed 62. CSK then stemmed the run flow in the middle overs, with Matheesha Pathirana taking three wickets. Romario Shephed then pulled off a blinder of a knock at the end, smashing the second-fastest IPL half-century in history in just 14 balls to guide RCB to 213/5.
CSK were well in the game thanks to a superb 94-run knock by Ayush Mhatre and the century partnership he put up with Ravindra Jadeja, who went on to score 77. However, some great death bowling by RCB, including a thrilling final over from Yash Dayal helped them win by 3 runs at the end.
