MS Dhoni is nothing short of an icon of Indian cricket. He retired from international cricket in 2020, but continues to play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL. At the age of 43, he is currently captaining CSK after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. However, like every year, there are rumours circulating this year regarding whether it is the last time we are seeing Dhoni play. Amidst this, his childhood coach Keshav Ranjan Banerjee has dropped a massive bombshell regarding his future.

In an exclusive conversation with Timesnownews.com, Banerjee said that MS Dhoni is currently readying the young CSK team for next year, and hence there is a possibility that he might play in the IPL 2026 as well.

"Only he (MS Dhoni) knows whether this year is his last year in the IPL. We all want him to play as long as he can," Banerjee said.

"CSK might have parted with him before the IPL 2025 auction if they wanted. However, they wanted Dhoni to stay so that he could groom this team. So, we might see him play in the next IPL as well," he added.

In an interaction with Sports Today, Sunil Gavaskar said that MS Dhoni is playing this season solely keeping the interest of CSK in mind. Any future decisions that he takes will also be in the best interest of the team.

"Any player makes decisions not so much for himself, but for what is likely to be good for the team. Whatever decision MSD made about playing this season would have been based solely on what’s best for CSK,” Gavaskar said.

“Any future decision he takes will also depend entirely on what’s good for CSK—not necessarily what’s good for himself," he added.
