Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he will take a break from coaching when his contract with the Premier League club expires.
Guardiola, whose contract with City was due to expire at the end of this season, signed a contract extension in November that will end in June 2027.
Although this raises doubt about his immediate future, he has not yet decided whether he wants to continue in the current position for the full duration of the contract.
"After my contract with City, I am going to stop. I am sure. I do not know if I am going to retire, but I am going to take a break," Guardiola told ESPN Brasil, speaking ahead of Saturday's crucial Premier League home match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
'How I Want To Be Remembered, I Don't Know'
The Spaniard joined Manchester City in February 2016 after a four-year stint with Barcelona and three years with Bayern Munich.
"How I want to be remembered, I do not know. I want people to remember me however they want. All coaches want to win so we can have a memorable job, but I believe that the fans of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City have had fun watching my teams play," he said.
"I do not think we should ever live thinking about whether we are going to be remembered. When we die, our families cry for two or three days and then that is it, you are forgotten. In the careers of coaches, there are good and bad ones, the important thing is that the good ones are remembered for longer," Guardiola added.
"I will tell you that the most important thing is not what people think of you. After all, our lives as footballers have been very good. There are new challenges as a coach. I do not know what will happen in the future and in the end that doesn't matter," he said.
Under Guardiola's guidance, Manchester City have won 18 major trophies in his eight full seasons at City so far, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League. They won the Champions League as part of their treble-winning season of 2022–23.
Guardiola is hoping to add to his incredible collection of silverware when Man City face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on May 17.
