- Shubman Gill had an angry exchange with the umpire
- Abhishek Sharma made 74 runs vs GT
- Gill was not happy with a DRS decision
While Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma are close childhood friends, the Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper did all in their power to get his wickets despite the Decision Review System (DRS) giving him a reprieve in his team's 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday (May 2).
It was in the 14th over that tempers flared after Prasidh Krishna trapped Abhishek in the front of the stumps. While the on-field umpire gave him not-out, Gill was quick to ask for a review. The replays showed an umpire's call on 'Impact', which meant that the original decision would stand despite the ball smashing into the wickets according to the projected replay.
However, Gill was not pleased with the decision and confronted the on-field umpires. It appeared that the 25-year-old argued that the ball was a full toss and the ball did not pitch before smashing Abhishek on the pads. This led to a long delay before the match resumed, three balls before the second time-out of the innings.
Abhishek made multiple efforts to calm his Punjab and India teammate down but to no avail as Gill continued to have an animated chat with the umpire.

At the time of the incident, Abhishek was batting at 69. The incident did not cause major damage to the hosts as SRH's top-scorer in the innings departed in the next over, with Ishan Sharma getting his wicket. The SRH opener made a knock of 74 in 41 balls, and his dismissal all but confirmed SRH's seventh defeat of the season in 10 games.
After the time-out, Gill went off the field and Rashid Khan led the team for an over.
Shubman Gill's Day Of Umpire Quarrels
This was the second time in the day that Gill lost his cool at the umpires as he charged towards the fourth umpire after his dismissal in the first innings after a controversial run-out call by the third umpire.
