Yuzvendra Chahal etched his name in the history books by taking a hat-trick for Punjab Kings (PBKS) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday (April 30) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in the 19th over of the home team's innings.
Chahal, who had bowled just two overs and given away 23 runs without getting any wicket, was given the responsibility of bowling the 19th over of the innings by Shreyas Iyer. After being hit for a six by Dhoni on the first ball, Chahal responded in heroic style by dismissing the CSK skipper on the second ball. After Deepak Hooda took two runs on the third ball, he was dismissed on the next delivery after giving away a catch to Priyansh Arya at backwards points.
CSK sent impact player Anshul Kamboj on the crease, but he was bamboozled and dismissed for a golden duck. Noor Ahmed walked out next and tried to smash a six but ended up giving a catch to Marco Jansen at long-on.
Post completing his hat-trick, Chahal recreated his viral celebration which was inspired by a famous meme.

This marked the second hat-trick of Chahal's career as well as the second instance of the 34-year-old taking four wickets in one over. He had achieved both feats in a match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) while playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Mumbai in 2022. Ironically, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer was one of the wickets Chahal took on that day.
Talking about the match, CSK posted a total of 190 on the board before being bowled out. Sam Curran (88 of 47) was their top-scorer while Dewald Brevis (32 of 26) played a key role. However, no other CSK player made more than 17 runs as concerns over their misfiring batting unit remain.
This is the second instance of Chahal taking a four-wicket haul in the 2025 IPL after his heroic spell against KKR when PBKS defended the lowest score in IPL history at Mullanpur.
