Yuzvendra Chahal etched his name in the history books with a hat-trick in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by taking four wickets in the 19th over of the ongoing clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Chahal has taken a hat-trick for the second time in his IPL career after achieving the feat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai while playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2022 season.
Yuzvendra Chahal's Never-Done-Before Feat
Chahal is the first player in history to take a hat-trick against CSK in the league's 17-year--old history. While Parvinder Awana had taken a hat-trick in 2014 vs CSK (while playing for KXIP now known as PBKS), it came in the Champions League T20 tournament.
It is also the first time a bowler has taken a hat-trick in IPL at Chepauk since 2008, when Laximipathy Balaji became the first bowler in the league to achieve the feat against Kings XI Punjab (now PBKS) while playing for CSK.
The star spinner is the third player in history to achieve the feat multiple times after Amit Mishra and Yuvraj Singh.

Quite remarkably, Yuvraj remains the only player to score multiple hat-tricks in the same season and for the same team. Alongside Chahal and Yuvraj, Axar Patel and Sam Curran have also taken a hat-trick for PBKS.
Before dismissing Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmed to complete the magical feat, Chahal dismissed MS Dhoni on the second ball of the 19th over. This meant that the 34-year-old finished with four wickets in an over. This is the third instance of a bowler taking four wickets in an over, but Chahal is the first player to achieve the feat twice.

Chahal is also IPL's highest wicket-taker in history with 218 wickets to his name. No other bowler yet has taken more than 200 scalps. He is also the only player in the league's history to be the top-wicket taker for two teams (Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals). At the 2025 IPL Mega Auction, he was signed for Rs. 18 crore by PBKS.
He now also has the most occasions of taking four or more wickets in an innings in IPL history (9) and the second-most three-wicket hauls (22) behind Jasprit Bumrah (24).
