Punjab Kings (PBKS) are facing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in an away game on Wednesday (April 30). The fixture is taking place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first in the fixture. Speaking at the toss, Iyer announced an injury to Glenn Maxwell and said that he wasn't part of the playing XI against CSK.
He has a fractured finger and is likely to be ruled out of the complete season. "We are going to bowl first. We'll focus on our process. Our preparations have been intact. Boys are in high spirits and looking forward for a great game. Unfortunate that he's got a fractured finger (Maxwell). Haven't decided on a replacement so far," Iyer said at the toss.
The star all-rounder has had a forgettable IPL season so far. He has only managed to score 48 runs in 7 matches. He has only hit one six and 5 boundaries. He scalped 4 wickets in 13 overs.
The Chennai pitch is known for assisting spinners and Maxwell's presence would have been helpful for the visiting team. With 5 wins from 9 matches, PBKS are at the fifth spot in the points table. A win over CSK will see them finish the day at the second spot.
CSK have only managed to win 2 out of their 9 matches and they are on the cusp of elimination. A defeat at the hands of PBKS will all but rule them out of IPL 2025.
