The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has officially announced the appointment star all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt as their new captain for the women's team. She takes over the position from former skipper Heather Knight, who left the role following England's disastrous Ashes campaign in which the team failed to win even a single match.
Nat Sciver-Brunt, a mainstay in England's lineup since her debut in 2013, will captain the team across the all three formats.
In 2022 and 2023, Sciver-Brunt was named the ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year. In 2017 and 2022, she was also recognized as the PCA Women's Player of the Year. Additionally, she was a member of the 2023 ICC Women's T20 and ODI Teams of the Year.
The Mumbai Indians star is currently ranked three in the ICC Women's ODI rankings. Sciver-Brunt was Heather Knight's deputy for the previous three years before being named captain. She has made 259 appearances for England across all three formats to date and was also a member of the squad that won the 2017 World Cup. In Test matches, she averages 46.47, in ODIs, 45.91, and in T20Is, 28.45. In addition, she has 181 international wickets under her belt.
In 2021, she took charge of the England squad for the first time in the third T20 International match against New Zealand. In 2022, she oversaw the Commonwealth Games as well. She recently played for the Mumbai Indians in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025, where she scored 523 runs, making her the first player to reach 500 runs in a single edition.
