India women are up against Sri Lanka women in the first ODI of the tri-series, also involving South Africa, at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Rain delayed the start of play, and about an hour was lost due to bad weather conditions. When play resumed, the match was cut short to 39 overs. India won the toss and opted to field in overcast conditions.
Why Are Indian Players Wearing Black Armbands?
The Indian players were seen wearing a black armband as they stepped on the park to field. The move was done to pay tribute to the 26 people who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Earlier, BCCI had confirmed that teams in IPL will be wearing the back armbands to show solidarity with the families of the Pahalgam terrorist attack victims.
Key Series For World Cup Preparations
India will be hosting the Women's World Cup in September at home, and the series will serve as a good preparation for the mega event. India come into the series after beating West Indies and Ireland in the previous two series at home. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, suffered a defeat to New Zealand in away series.
"We are gonna bowl first. Keeping conditions in mind, we thought bowling first was the right option. We have two debutants. Really excited that we got this opportunity," said Harmanpreet Kaur after winning the toss.
"We would have bowled first. We'll stick with our plans, we have a good batting line-up. 200+ score on this wicket, we'll have to play positive cricket. We have two debutants," said Sri Lanka captain Chamari Attapattu.
