Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were defeated by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2025 at their home ground of the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This was their 7th defeat of the campaign in 9 matches. This means that they are virtually knocked out of the tournament, even though there is a very small mathematical chance of them qualifying for the playoffs. Ravindra Jadeja has not performed up to the mark with the bat, and against SRH he scored 21 runs from 17 balls. Virender Sehwag heavily criticized his batting approach.
Chennai Super Kings were bundled out for 154 in the first innings, with hardly any of their batters, except Dewald Brevis and Ayush Mhatre, showing any intent to score big. In an interaction with Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag said that it looked like the CSK batters were in a rush to go home and wished that the tournament comes to an early end
“Like I was saying, after half the tournament I felt like going home, and even CSK feels that way. Half the batters are asking when they will be able to go home, let this tournament come to an end,” Sehwag said.
He then went on to criticize Jadeja saying that his strike rate was useless, and that he should have stayed on till the 18th over so that the team could play around him, given that he was promoted up the order.
“At least one person should take some responsibility, Brevis was playing that role but even he got out playing a shot. If Jadeja is coming up the order, his strike-rate is useless, but at the very least stick around till the 15th-18th over, the team can play around him," Sehwag added.

What Is Sam Curran Doing At No. 3

In a surprising move, Sam Curran came in to bat for CSK at no.3. Virender Sehwag was baffled at the move, and said that Dewald Brevis should have been considered for the role. He also said that CSK are missing the services of Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been ruled out due to injury.
“I can’t understand what Sam Curran is doing at No.3 in this line-up. He has played up the order for sure, he has batted No.4 in ILT20 and he has played that role intelligently. But, in this line-up, when you have Brevis, play him at No.3. Then Dube can come in next, followed by Jadeja, Sam Curran and Deepak Hooda. They are missing Ruturaj Gaikwad in this line-up, he used to consistently make runs in Chennai," Sehwag added.
