- Sunrisers Hyderabad have lost six out of their eight matches
- SRH's playoff chances are hanging by a thread.
Sunrisers Hyderabad's miserable season went from bad to worse as they suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad (SRH) on Wednesday (April 23). This is SRH's second loss in six days to the Hardik Pandya-led side in the last six days after a defeat at the Wankhede Stadium last week (April 17).
The Hyderabad-based franchise has lost six out of their eight games and has just four points on the board. They are in 9th place on the table, just narrowly ahead of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Net-Run Rate (NRR). Intrestingly, SRH and CSK will face each other on Friday (April 25) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in a clash that will see the loser sink to 10th place.
How Can Sunrisers Hyderabad Still Qualify For Playoffs?
After reaching the final last year, SRH's hopes of going one step better this time around are hanging by a thread, with them having no more room for error. SRH need to win all remaining games to reach 16 the magical mark of 16 points on the table.
For those unversed, a tally of 16 is considered safe for playoff qualification. While teams have qualified with 14 points in the past, it has happened only once in the 10-team era post the tournament's expansion in 2024. RCB qualified with seven wins last year, but in that situation SRH will have to depend on other results and need a major NRR boost.
Hence, SRH need to win all their matches from here to qualify for the playoffs without needing diving intervention. Even in the best-case scenario, the 2016 champions cannot afford any more than one more defeat.
On the other hand, MI have won their fourth consecutive game and climbed to third place on the table with 10 points following a nightmare start to the season that saw them lose four of their five games in a row.
