- Miraz took the third 10 wicket-haul of his career
Mehidy Hasan Miraz fought a lone battle for Bangladesh as they lost the first Test of a two-match Test series against Zimbabwe on Wednesday (April 23) at the Sylhet International Stadium. In a dramatic finish, the visitors sealed their first win in the longest format of the game in four years with a three-wicket margin.
Craige Ervine won his first match as Zimbabwe's Test captain in his 7th game, leading the national team in the longest format. The African nation chased down a total of 174 to register a three-wicket win. This is the highest successful fourth innings run-chase by Zimbabwe in history.

Despite Bangladesh's shambolic defeat, which further highlighted their decline in red-ball cricket, Miraz stood out with a heroic display that almost won his country the match. The 27-year-old took a 10-wicket haul (5/52, 5/50) and as a result became the first Bangladesh cricketer to take three 10 wicket-hauls in Test cricket history. The star all-rounder also completed 200 Test wickets and is the third player from Bangladesh to achieve the feat after Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam.
Miraz took a five-wicket haul in the fourth innings of the Test, marking the second instance of him achieving the milestone in the last innings of the match. Previously, the Bangladesh star took five wickets in the fourth innings against Zimbabwe in 2018 and India in 2022 at Mirpur.
The one against India also came in a losing cause as Bangladesh missed a golden chance of a first-ever Test victory over the Asian giants, as a rescue act by Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin sealed a three-wicket win for the KL Rahul-led side.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz Sets Multiple World Records vs Zimbabwe
Miraz is only the third player in the 147-year history of Test cricket, after Wasim Akram and Rob Wills, to take multiple five-wicket hauls in a losing cause during the fourth innings and the first spinner to achieve the feat. Overall, eight spinners have taken a five-for in the last innings of a Test match while their team lost alongside Bishan Singh Bedi, Shane Warne, Nick Cook, Suraj Randiv, Sonny Ramadhin and Alf Valetine.
Miraz is the first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a fourth innings against Zimbabwe, while his team lost the match. He is also the first player in history to achieve the milestone twice against the Chevrons in the fourth innings of a match after his heroics in the 2018 Mirpur Test, which Bangladesh won by 218 runs
