KL Rahul made a big impression with a brilliant batting display as he led the Delhi Capitals to a resounding eight-wicket victory over his former team, the Lucknow Super Giants in an IPL 2025 match on Tuesday. Rahul struck an unbeaten half-century with three fours and as many sixes while LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka could watch from the stands as the star batter made his first appearance back at his old haunt since being cut by the team last year.
When LSG had a difficult season last year, finishing seventh on the points table and missing out on the IPL playoffs for the first time in three years, Rahul and Goenka had a notorious falling out. Rahul was released prior to the 2024 IPL mega auction after leading the team for three seasons, two of which saw playoff qualifications.

Rahul finished undefeated at 57 off 42 after securing the victory with a six over the mid-wicket area. Rahul appeared hurried when he greeted Goenka during the customary post-match handshakes after winning. After that, he sent a message to his LSG followers through social media.
Rahul posted a number of photos from his innings against LSG on Tuesday along with the caption, "Always good to be back in Lucknow". The carousel features a picture of him using the bat to celebrate by pointing out his name on the back of his DC jersey.
Last year Rahul had mentioned that things were not going well in the LSG dressing room when he was parting ways with the franshise.
“I wanted to start fresh, I wanted to explore my options and I wanted to go and play where I could find some freedom, where the team atmosphere could be something lighter. Sometimes you need to move away and find something good for yourself," Rahul told Star Sports in November last year.
