Ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday (April 23), Hardik Pandya and Pat Cummins paid tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.
For those unversed, India saw one of its darkest days in history as 27 Indians lost their lives while several others were injured in a deadly attack in Pahalgam, a situation in Kashmir, as terrorists opened fire over a group of tourist at a popular spot in the town.
After winning the toss and chosing to bowl first, MI skipper Hardik expressed his condolences and called the attacks cowardly. On the other hand, Cummins stated he was heartbroken by seeing the images from Pahalgam.
"I would like to pass on our condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the terror attack. We, as a team, strongly condemn these cowardly attacks. We stand behind the nation," said Hardik.
'It has been heartbreaking to see the images from Pahalgam. From all of us from Sunrisers and Australians, who feel so welcomed in India, our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the victims. We are thinking of them," Cummins said.
The SRH-MI fixture is being played in a mellowed-down environment as there is no music DJ, cheerleaders, or fireworks at the venue. Players from both sides as well as the commentators and umpires, are wearing black armbands. Before the match started, the two teams and the match officials observed a minute's silence. The IPL sent out a strong 'Lets stand for peace and humanity' message from Hyderabad.
Talking about the match, MI have made one change with Vignesh Puthur replacing Ashwini Kumar. On the other hand, Jaydev Unadkat has come into the SRH playing XI while Mohammed Shami has been shifted to the impact player list.
