Rishabh Pant's miserable 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) continued as the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper hit a new career low against his former side, Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday (April 22) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Pant walked out to bat at number seven after Axar Patel won the toss and chose to bowl first. The LSG skipper walked out to bat with just two balls remaining in the innings after Ayush Badoni's dismissal. The LSG skipper failed to have any impact as he was dismissed for a two-ball duck by Mukesh Kumar as his team posted a below-par total of 159 on the board.
Rishabh Pant's Hits Career Low
Today's match marked the first instance of Pant batting at number seven or below in an IPL innings since 2016, which was his debut season in the IPL while playing for DC (then known as Delhi Daredevils). Pant had walked out to bat at number eight and seven on one occasion each in his debut campaign. Today's knock is the only third instance of him batting at number seven or below in an IPL innings and the first in nine years (3272 days).

At no other occasion in his T20 career for either Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy or India in international cricket has Pant batted at number seven or below.
This season also marks the first time in eight years that Pant has been dismissed for multiple ducks in a season. The LSG skipper failed to open his tally in both matches against the Capitals. The star wicket-keeper batter was dismissed without making any runs in the 2017 season three times. This is also the second instance of Pant being dismissed for a duck against the same team twice in a season, after Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2017. It is worth noting that while playing for DC, he was not dismissed for a duck from the 2018 season till his debut for LSG .

Pant, who decided not to stay at DC ahead of the 2025 IPL Mega Auction, was signed by LSG for a whopping Rs. 27 crore and is the league's most expensive player in history. However, he has had a nightmare time with the bat in his debut season with just 106 runs in eight innings. He is the only player to have more than 100 runs this season at a strike-rate of less than 100.
