KL Rahul shone with the bat and smashed an unbeaten 57 off 42 balls as Delhi Capitals (DC) chased down the target of 160 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) comfortably. The visiting team took 17.5 overs to complete the chase. They only lost 2 wickets of Abhishek Porel and Karun Nair. All eyes were on Rahul as he was playing against his former team, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
The former LSG captain met Sanjiv Goenka after the game and shook hands with him. Sanjiv is the owner of LSG. He famously had an animated chat with Rahul after LSG's defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024. LSG didn't retain their captain before the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
Rahul joined LSG in the IPL 2022 pre-auction draft for Rs 17 crore. He captained LSG to the second round of IPL 2022. Krunal Pandya led LSG in the second half of IPL 2023 and took the team to the playoffs. Rahul-led LSG failed to qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs.
Back in the auction after 7 years, Rahul joined DC for Rs 14 crore. He has performed well for them and could force his way into the T20I team with his performances.
Talking of the game, Mukesh Kumar delivered the Player of the Match performance and took a four-fer. The right-arm pacer dismissed Mitchell Marsh, Abdul Samad, Ayush Badoni and Rishabh Pant. With the bat, Rahul, Porel and Axar Patel did the job. The DC captain remained unbeaten on 34 off 20 balls in the chase.
With 6 wins from 8 matches, DC sit at the second spot in the IPL 2025 points table. They have 12 points in their account at an NRR of +0.657. Top-placed Gujarat Titans also have 12 points but they have a better NRR than DC. LSG have 5 wins from 9 matches and are at the fifth spot. They have 10 points at an NRR of -0.054.
