KL Rahul completed the perfect redemption on Tuesday (April 22) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow against his former side, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as Delhi Capitals registered their sixth win in eight matches and completed a double over the Rishabh Pant-led side.

Facing LSG for the first time post a bitter exit following an on-field public spat with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka last season and remarks from both sides which sparked controversy, Rahul completed the perfect redemption with an unbeaten knock of 57 in 42 balls as DC won the game with eight wickets and with 13 balls to spare.

Rahul finished the match off with a six in the 18th over of the match. This was his third maximum of the evening. Earlier in the innings, the ex-LSG skipper smashed Aiden Markram for a six in the 12th over of the innings. The cameras were quick to move towards Goenka, whose reaction quickly went viral on social media.

Through the course of his innings, Rahul completed 5000 runs in the IPL and is the quickest player to achieve the feat. Among the 8 players to reach the milestone, Rahul also has the best average.

Rahul was LSG's first-ever captain after joining them ahead of their debut season in 2022 in a pre-auction. The 33-year-old is the franchise's highest run-getter with 1410 runs in 38 innings at an average of 41.47 with two centuries.

Rahul was purchased by the Capitals for 14 crore in the 2025 IPL auction and is their leading run-getter this season with 323 runs in seven innings at an average of 64.60 with three half-centuries. Each of his three 50+ scores this season has come in winning causes and while batting in different batting positions.

He won the POTM award in DC's win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
