'Vaibhav Suryavanshi Travelled 100 Kms For Practice': 14-Year-Old RR Sensation's Coach Makes BIG Revelation

14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi was the main talking point when he made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He was mightily impressive on debut as he smashed 34 from 20 balls in an innings studded with 2 fours and 3 sixes. In fact, he hit the first ball he faced on his debut for a massive six. As he caught the eye of the nation, his childhood coach, Manish Ojha, shared a few unknown details about the teen sensation.
In an interaction with News18 Cricketnext, Manish Ojha revealed that since Vaibhav was 9 years old, he used to travel 100 kms from his village in Samastipur to the coaching camp in Patna every alternate day. The youngster started training from 7.30 AM and continued till the evening before travelling back home. He followed this routine for 4 years.
"This child has faced challenges since childhood. Reaching this point took great effort. It's heartening to see him perform well in his debut match, and we are hopeful for an even brighter future,” Ojha said.
“Vaibhav came to me when he was around nine years old. The distance from his native Samastipur to Patna is around 100km, and he used to come to my coaching every alternate day. Vaibhav used to start training around 7:30 am and continued till the evening, before travelling back home. He has followed this schedule for over four years," he added.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Creates History On Debut

Vaibhav Suryavanshi at 14 years and 23 days became the youngest player to ever play in an IPL match. In fact, he was the first player born after the IPL began 18 years ago to feature in a match in the league. Suryavanshi broke the record of Prayas Ray Burman, who made his debut for RCB in IPL 2019 at the age of 16.
He also hit a six in the first ball of his IPL debut. He overtook Riyan Parag to become the youngest player to hit a six in the history of the IPL.
At the age of just 13, he was roped in for Rs 1.10 crore by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025 auction, thus becoming the youngest-ever player to be bought in the IPL auction.
