Virat Kohli continued his good run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and scored his fourth fifty of the tournament. Opening the batting in a chase of 158, Kohli played a risk-free innings and scored a fifty in 43 balls to put RCB in a great position against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The team lost Phil Salt early, but Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal took RCB to a position of safety with a century stand. Earlier, RCB bowlers were once again on fire and restricted PBKS to 157/6. The hosts got off to a quick start, but Krunal Pandya removed the openers, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, in quick succession. PBKS never recovered from the double blow and kept on losing wickets. Shashank Singh played a late cameo of 31 while Marco Jansen made 25 to take PBKS to a fighting total.

The fifty by Kohli helped him create a special record in the IPL. Kohli became the first player in the world to score 67 50-plus scores in the IPL. Kohli was tied with David Warner at 66 fifty-plus scores, but the fifty against PBKS pushed him to the top of the table. While Warner had 62 fifties and four hundreds in IPL, Kohli has 59 fifties and eight hundreds to his name. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are the next batters on the list, with 53 and 45 fifty-plus knocks respectively.

Meanwhile, RCB picked up a comprehensive win over PBKS by seven wickets. Kohli carried the bat and stayed unbeaten at 73 in 54 balls. He got good support from Devdutt Padikkal, who made 61. This was RCB's fifth win away from home, however, all the home games have ended in a defeat for RCB. The Rajat Patidar-led side jumped to third position in the points table after the win.
