KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Pakistan have qualified for the 2025 Women's World Cup
  • India will host the tournament
  • India last hosted the event in 2013
The Pakistan Women's Cricket team sealed their spot in the 2025 Women's World Cup after defeating Thailand on Thursday (April 17) at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium. The Women in Green registered an 87-run victory to make it four wins in as many matches in the ongoing Women's World Cup 2025 qualifiers. The host nation has sealed their spot in the mega event ahead of their final match against second-placed Bangladesh.
Pakistan's qualification means that seven of the eight participating teams are confirmed. Earlier, India was confirmed as a participant due to being a host nation before Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka sealed their spot in the quadrennial event through the ICC Women's Championship.
This leaves only one spot remaining ahead of the final matches with Bangladesh, the West Indies, and Scotland in contention. All teams have four points on the board with two wins and two defeats each. While Bangladesh will play host to Pakistan, Scotland will go head-to-head against Ireland, while the West Indies Face Thailand

Women's World Cup 2025 Set To Head Champions Trophy Way?

Pakistan's qualification status had a widespread impact on the tournament as it was not just about whether the Women in Green could retain their status among the top teams in the world and fight for ultimate glory; their performance was also crucial to the tournament's logistics.
For those unversed, India is set to host the mega event for the first time since 2013. However, the country will not be the sole host of the event. The tournament will now be played in a hybrid model with Pakistan playing their matches in a neutral country, like the 2025 Champions Trophy, where India played their matches in Dubai, including the final.
In December last year, the ICC announced that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reached an agreement to play global events set to be hosted by each other in a hybrid model. This included the 2025 Champions Trophy, 2025 Women's World Cup, and 2026 T20 World Cup.
"India and Pakistan matches hosted by either country at ICC Events during the 2024-2027 rights cycle will be played at a neutral venue, the ICC Board confirmed on Thursday, 19 December. This will apply to the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 (hosted by Pakistan), set to be played in February and March 2025, as well as the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 (hosted by India) and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 (hosted by India and Sri Lanka)," said an ICC statement.
As far as the 2026 T20 World Cup is concerned, India are already joint hosts alongside Sri Lanka, which means there will be no significant scheduling hurdle unless Pakistan reach the final. At last year's Champions Trophy, both Dubai and Lahore were kept as host venues of the final but India's qualification meant that Pakistan could not host the summit clash of the first ICC tournament hosted by the country in 29 years.
While an official statement is awaited, reports have revealed that the matches of the Women's World Cup scheduled to take place in September-October next year will be hosted by Visakhapatnam, Mullanpur, Guwahati, Indore, and Thiruvananthapuram.
More details on a possible hybrid model are now expected in the next few days. United Arab Emirates (UAE) will once again be a top contender to co-host the tournament with India.
