KL Rahul is set to create history and he is just 79 runs away from becoming the fastest batsman to achieve a huge milestone in IPL. The right-handed batsman made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2013. He moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for IPL 2014 and 2015. Rahul returned to RCB before IPL 2016.
Rahul joined Punjab Kings in the IPL 2018 mega-auction and stayed with them till 2021. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) picked him before the IPL 2022 mega-auction. He moved to the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
KL Rahul set to create history
KL Rahul is just 79 runs away from creating history and becoming the fastest batsman to score 5000 runs in IPL. He has scored 4921 runs in 128 innings and is just 79 runs away from the elusive mark.
David Warner presently holds the record for scoring the fastest 5000 runs in the T20 league. He breached the mark in 135 innings. Virat Kohli, who sits at the second spot, is the fastest Indian to score 5000 runs. He completed the milestone in 157 innings.
AB de Villiers sits at the third posiiton. He took 161 innings to score 5000 runs. Shikhar Dhawan (168) and Suresh Raina (173) follow de Villiers in the elite list, respectively.
KL Rahul's IPL career
Rahul's IPL numbers improved starting the IPL 2018 season and he breached the 400-run mark for the first time. He scored 659 runs in IPL 2018 and followed up with 593 runs. Rahul scored 670 and 626 runs in IPL 2020 and 2021, respectively.
He scored 616 runs in his first season for LSG. Rahul managed 274 runs in 9 matches in IPL 2023 before getting ruled out. He breached the 500-run mark in IPL 2024 and scored 520 runs. He has 238 runs in 5 matches in the ongoing IPL season.
