The BCCI will soon release the list of centrally contracted players. Ahead of the board's release, many reports have surfaced regarding the players who could be part of the new contract list. While few players are set to earn their maiden contracts, R Ashwin will not be part of the list as he retired in December 2024.
Cricbuzz has reported that Varun Chakaravarthy should get a central contract along with Shreyas Iyer. The likes of Harshit Rana, Nitish Reddy and Abhishek Sharma are reportedly set to earn their maiden contracts.
Chakaravarthy made a solid comeback in Team India and his purple patch in the T20I format saw him force his way into the ODI team. The mystery spinner shone in the 2025 Champions Trophy and finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker for the Men in Blue. He scalped 9 wickets in only 3 matches.
Nitish had a memorable Australia tour and he scored 298 runs in 9 innings. He was India's most consistent batter on the tour and also scored a century. Nitish also scalped 5 wickets.
Abhishek and Harshit made their debuts in the 2024/25 season. While Abhishek is only part of the T20I team at present, Harshit has played all three formats. He was part of the 2025 Champions Trophy-winning team.
No change in Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma's contracts
The report in Cricbuzz adds that Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja will continue to be in the Grade A+ category despite quitting T20I cricket. Jasprit Bumrah is the fourth member in this category.
Virat, Rohit and Jadeja retired from the shortest format after winning the 2024 World Cup. The Grade A+ category is only for players who are regular in all three formats. The trio continues to play the other two formats. Though there are doubts over Rohit's Test future and he might not tour England.
