
BCCI Almost Confirms Abhishek Nayar, Three Other Team India Support Staff's Sacking Ahead Of England Tour

Team India are all set to travel to England for a crucial five-match Test Series in June. Ahead of the series, there have been several reports that BCCI are set to make some massive changes to their supporting staff after the debacle in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, fielding coach T Dilip, strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai and a masseur are all set to be sacked ahead of the England tour. While the BCCI are yet to officially announce this sacking, secretary Devajeet Saikia has more or less confirmed it.
In an interaction with PTI, Devajeet Saikia has said that things are being finalized and the apex Indian cricketing body will send a note to the media in a few days. This is more or less a clear indication of the massive overhaul in Team India's backroom staff that is likely coming in the following days.
“Certain things are being finalised. You will receive a press note from BCCI in some days," Saikia said.
'Powerful' Team India Member Behind Abhishek Nayar's Sacking
According to a report by PTI, a 'powerful member' of the Team India support staff suggested the removal of Abhishek Nayar, as his presence in the dressing room was 'counter-productive'. The report also claims that Sitanshu Kotak was hired as the new Team India batting coach before the Champions Trophy 2025 to slowly push Nayar out of the system.
"Just after the tour of Australia, there was a review meeting conducted by the BCCI. The top officials of the board, including secretary Devajit Saikia and vice-president Rajeev Shukla, were present along with important members associated with the Indian team, and the national selectors," a BCCI source told PTI.
"On the sidelines of the meeting, a powerful member of the support staff expressed his apprehensions about Nayar's presence and said how him being in the dressing room is proving to be counter-productive. While the BCCI didn't act immediately, but they brought in Kotak, the former Saurashtra run-accumulator. It was a way of sidelining Nayar during the Champions Trophy," the source added.
