Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the United States. There are a whole lot of activities around pickleball in the country, including professional tours, coaching clinics, research, and even a month dedicated to the sport. Legendary tennis players like Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf are at the forefront of promoting pickleball across the world.
Now, a team of four pickleball players set a new Guinness World Record by playing 36 consecutive hours of matches at Pickler Universe in Carrollton, Texas, US. The team, who call themselves The Pickle Breakers, broke the previous record held by a foursome who played for 34 hours, 5 minutes, and 55 seconds in Britain in September 2024.
Chong Kim, Jaret Petras, Laura Maala, and Geneva Olson started playing at 6 a.m. local time on Saturday. Their goal in setting a new world record was to raise over $18,000 for the Taylor's Gift Foundation, a charity supporting organ donation and providing aid to families who decide to donate the organs of their loved ones.
Mark Olson, husband of Geneva, said, "They are tired. It has been a long night."
"We got four daughters, and she wants to prove to her daughters that she can do anything, and they can do anything they put their mind to," he said. "She has been the kind of person that if there's something she wants to do, she puts her mind to it and gets it done."
"I am supporting my wife and the crew that is trying to set the Guinness World Record for the longest pickleball marathon," he added.
The world record was recorded by producer Colby Logan. "It always sounds crazy," Logan said. "It is unrealistic to do what they are talking about, but that is why it is a world record. When you do something like that, it brings people together."
