KL Rahul continues to shine in the IPL 2025. On Thursday, the 32-year-old right-handed batter smashed an unbeaten 93 off 53 balls to help Delhi Capitals defeat Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by six wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
After steering DC to a hard-fought victory, Rahul, who played for RCB in 2013, burst into an animated celebration as he was seen thumping his chest, demarcating on the ground and putting the bat on the ground, saying: "This is his yard."
DC were struggling at 58 for 4 while chasing a rechristened target of 164, but a brilliant 111-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Rahul and Tristan Stubbs helped the visiting side reach home with six wickets and 13 balls to spare.
Rahul, who has now amassed 193 runs from three matches at an average of 92.50 and with half centuries, was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning knock. His innings of 93 not out was studded with seven fours and six sixes.
After guiding his team to a thumping victory, Rahul's celebration grabbed the limelight. It was a poignant moment, since Rahul has been doing well in the IPL 2025 after being under the scanner last season due to his slow strike rate as a Lucknow Super Giants batter and captain.
But since then, he has improved his game and presented himself as a terrific finisher in both India colour and franchise cricket in the IPL. The best part of Rahul's innings for DC came in the 15th over, when he clobbered Josh Hazlewood for 22 runs.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Rahul said, "I knew what my shots are. Just wanted to get off to a good start, be aggressive initially and assess it from there. If I was trying to hit a big six, I knew what pockets to target. Wicketkeeping gave me a feeler for how the other batters played and where were they dismissed. Got lucky with the dropped catch. This is my ground, this is my home. I know this better than anybody else. Enjoyed playing here."
Earlier in DC's chase, RCB captain Rajat Patidar dropped Rahul's catch, which turned out to be the game-changer, with Rahul marching ahead to guide his team to the second spot on the IPL 2025 standings.
“It was a slightly tricky wicket. What helped me was being behind the stumps for 20 overs, just watching how it played. From wicketkeeping, I figured that the ball sat in the wicket a little bit, but it was consistent throughout - it wasn't two-paced, it was one-paced throughout,” Rahul observed.
