Sourav Ganguly shared his perspective on the ongoing controversy surrounding the Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) home form and the issue of pitch controversies in IPL 2025.
When quizzed about Kolkata Knight Riders' home woes at Eden Gardens, where they have lost two out of three games, including a dramatic four-run defeat against Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday, Ganguly said, "Please ask Ajinkya Rahane. He'll be able to answer that (what's wrong with KKR at home). They were cruising in the last game and should have won that game with an over to spare."
Despite the poor result, Ganguly expressed confidence in in KKR's abilities.
"They've got some fabulous players. Rahane himself is in very good form. My only worry is I see Rinku Singh too much lower down the order."
"It's still early days. I'm sure they've got the opportunity to turn it around," he added while speaking on the sidelines of an event after his AI Digital Avatar was launched by Ikonz.
The lack of 'home advantage' in IPL this year with franchises reportedly not getting pitches to their liking has also become a heated topic of discussion.
Asked whether he supports home advantage in the IPL, Ganguly gave a measured response.
"Yeah, why not? It depends on how it goes. I know why you're asking, but I don't want to comment on that."
Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Chennai Super Kings in their next match and both the teams will have their task cut out, as they look to break a frustrating run of defeats in the IPL on Friday.
Interestingly, CSK did not enjoy home advantage at Chepauk, which has been a significant factor in their previous success. The pitch has changed significantly, making it harder for them to read and adapt to.
Earlier, KKR skipper Rahane had taken a dig at at Eden Gardens Pitch Curator Sujan Mukherjee and said that the latter has already gained a lot of publicity by talking to the media. Stating tat he would rather keep quiet than blow up the controversy further, Rahane said, team much, Rahane was asked to share his thoughts. "Main kuch bolunga to bawaal ho jayega (If I say something, then it'll become a huge headline)," said Rahane in the post-match press conference.
"The media has already made it a big thing. The curator has already gotten a lot of publicity and I think he enjoys that. So I'll not say anything around the wicket here and will rather say it to the IPL. You guys can write whatever you want," Rahane added.
In an exclusive conversation with Sports Now, Mukherjee had firmly denied allegations of refusing to accommodate Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) pitch preferences.
Mukherjee, who has been at the centre of this brewing pitch debate, clarified his approach toward pitch preparation. “When I make a pitch, I try to offer a surface that offers both spin and bounce. We have had discussions behind the scenes. Naturally, if KKR approach me, then I will listen to them. I have good relations with the franchise — Chandrakant Pandit, Ajinkya Rahane, Venky Mysore. Even Rahane has spoken to me, and I listen to them because I am open to feedback. I am flexible and not rigid,” he had said.
