Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) registered an 18-run win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to register their third win of the season. With 3 wins from 4 matches, PBKS are at the fourth spot in the points table. Ruturaj Gaikwad-led CSK have managed to win just one out of their five games and they are reeling at the 9th spot in the points table.
Iyer, who joined PBKS for Rs 26.75 crore in the IPL 2025 mega-auction, has proven his worth and done the job so far. PBKS haven't made it to the playoffs since 2014 and would hope to finally clear the league stage.
Shreyas Iyer creates history
Shreyas Iyer created history and achieved a huge feat when PBKS defeated CSK. Iyer is now the only captain in IPL's history to lead three different teams to a win over the Yellow Army.
Captain Iyer registered his first win over CSK in IPL 2018. The right-handed batsman took over the charge of Delhi Capitals (DC) in the middle of the season. He captained DC till 2020. Iyer-led DC defeated CSK thrice.
Iyer joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2022 mega-auction and led them in two seasons. Under him, KKR registered one win over CSK. KKR went on to lift the IPL 2024 title under Iyer.
Iyer was in high demand in the IPL 2025 mega-auction and joined Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore. They kicked off their campaign with a win over Gujarat Titans and are in form.
Iyer has his task cut out as PBKS' captain as they have been an underperforming team in IPL. They have only breached the league stage twice. In 2008, Yuvraj Singh captained PBKS to the semi-final of the inaugural season. In 2014, George Bailey-led PBKS lost to KKR in the final.
