The Punjab Kings (PBKS) etched his name in the history books during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) with a victory over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday (April 8) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur (New Chandigarh).
The Punjab-based outfit continued their brilliant start to life under new captain and head coach Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting with their third win of the season in four games. This was the first victory of the season for the three-time champions at home.
After Shreyas won the toss and chose to bat first, PBKS were rocked early as they got five wickets in the first eight over while having just 83 on the board. However, Priyank Arya's 39-ball (103 of 42) ton and a 65-run partnership from Shashank Singh (52 of 26) and Marco Jansen (34 of 19) helped PBKS post a massive total of 219 on the board.
In reply, CSK put up a spirited effort led by Devon Conway, Shivam Dube, and MS Dhoni but they fell short by 18 runs to sink to their fourth defeat in five games.

PBKS Achieve Rare First

PBKS made 136 runs after losing their fifth wicket, which is the highest in IPL history by a team in the first innings of a match. This is the first instance of a team scoring more than 130 runs from their sixth wicket or below partnerships while batting first in an IPL match.

Overall, this is the joint fourth most runs a team has made after losing their fifth wicket. Kolkata Knight Riders (171 runs vs. CSK, 2021 in Mumbai) remain the highest on the list. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals (vs. Lucknow Super Giants at Visakhapatnam in 2025) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (vs. Sunrisers Hyderabad at Bengaluru in 2024) made 146 and 140 runs, respectively, after the loss of the fifth wicket. Gujarat Titans also made 136 runs against Mumbai Indians in 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium after losing half of their side.
Priyansh's ton is the first instance of a player scoring a century in the IPL despite five players making single-digit scores. in the top six.
