Rajasthan Royals are currently taking on Punjab Kings in the second match of the double header day in the IPL 2025 on April 5 (Saturday) at Raja Yadavindra Singh Stadium at Mullanpur. The Royals would be looking to win their second game on the trot by knocking over the home side who have been on a roll in the tournament under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer. RR had a change in the captain as Sanju Samson is leading the side today instead of Riyan Parag
Why Sanju Samson, And Not Riyan Parag Is Captaining RR Vs PBKS
Riyan Parag was the captain of the Rajasthan Royals for the first three matches of the IPL 2025 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Chennai Super Kings. Sanju Samson played in all these three matches, but only as a batter. He either came out as the impact player or was replaced by an impact player.
This was because Sanju Samson had injured his finger and had surgery prior to the start of the IPL 2025. He was not cleared by the BCCI Centre of Excellence to keep wickets or do any sort of fielding. Hence, he played only as a batter and not as a captain, handing over the duties to Riyan Parag.
However, he was finally given his clearance before the match against the Punjab Kings to keep wickets. Hence, he returns as the captain of RR in this match.

Nitish Rana departed soon after scoring just 12 runs. After that Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer continued the momentum with a 47-run partnership.
