There was a scary moment during Wednesday's Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) when Virat Kohli suffered a finger injury at deep mid-wicket.
The incident occurred in the 12th over of GT's chase when Sai Sudharsan hit a sweep shot off Krunal Pandya with brute force. Kohli tried to stop the ball, but it slipped away, hitting his right hand before rolling to the boundary. Kohli was soon seen clutching his injured finger as medical staff rushed to attend to him.
Although he decided to continue fielding after the on-field assessment, he never looked comfortable, frequently flexing his fingers.
With fans worried about the extent of his injury, RCB head coach Andy Flower provided an update. "Virat looks... he is okay," Flower said in the post-match press conference.
Earlier, Kohli was dismissed for seven by Arshad Khan. With Liam Livingstone scoring a gritty 50 off 40 balls, RCB managed to post a modest 169 for 8 on the board.
Mohammed Siraj, the former RCB pacer, was the star of the evening, picking up three wickets for 19 runs. Siraj picked up the wickets of Phil Salt, Devdutt Padikkal and Livingstone.
GT chased down the target with eight wickets in hand. Sai Sudharsan scored 49 off 36 balls, while Jos Buttler smashed 73 off 39 balls.
Since RCB dealt with their first defeat of their season, Kohli's injury could have been a major setback for the franchise before their away clash against Mumbai Indians on April 7.
