In the second ODI between New Zealand vs Pakistan, Mitchell Hay stole the show as he scored an unbeaten 99 in the first innings. As New Zealand snatched a victory by 84 runs, Hay won the Player of the Match Award for his performance with the bat. In the process, he managed to enter an elite list featuring the likes of Virender Sehwag.
Mitchell Hay slammed 99 from 78 balls in an innings studded with 7 fours and 7 sixes. He has now become the first New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter to remain unbeaten on 99 in an ODI. Overall, he became the third wicketkeeper-batter to achieve this milestone in ODIs.
He now becomes only the 16th batter to remain unbeaten on 99 in an ODI. He has joined an elite list of players to achieve this feat including Michael Clarke, Virender Sehwag, and Mohammad Yousuf.
Mitchell Hay has become the second Kiwi player to score an unbeaten 99 in ODIs after Bruce Edgar, who was the first player on the planet to achieve this rare feat. He did this in 1981 against India at Auckland. Andy Flower (1999) and Swapnil Patil (2014) are the two wicketkeeper-batters who have done this prior to Mitchell Hay.
New Zealand Beat Pakistan In 2nd ODI To Seal Series
Pakistan has lost the second ODI, and New Zealand sealed the series, while the last game is still to go. After Mitchell Hay's unbeaten 99, Ben Sears's five-wicket haul destroyed Pakistan's batting lineup. With the help of Hay's 99 and Mohammad Abbas's 41, the Blackcaps scored 292 runs in the first innings. In reply, Pakistan lost their first seven wickets for 72. Faheem Ashraf's 73 and Naseem Shah's 51 dragged Pakistan close to the target, but Sears's fiery spell of 5/59 restricted the Men in Green to 208.
