Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are hosting Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their first home game of the season. Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first at the Ekana Stadium. IPL crorepatis Rishabh and Iyer created history and jointly achieved a never-done-before record when they walked out for the toss.
The ongoing LSG-PBKS fixture is the first game in IPL's history to feature 2 players with a salary of more than Rs 25 crore each. Rishabh has a salary of Rs 27 crore while Iyer joined PBKS for Rs 26.75 crore.
Iyer became the first player to breach the elusive 25-crore mark. PBKS made the winning bid for him. Rishabh was retained by Delhi Capitals (DC) for Rs 20.75 crore after they used their Right to Match card on him. LSG raised Rishabh's bid to Rs 27 crore, which DC didn't match.
Before Iyer and Rishabh, Mitchell Starc held the record for being the costliest pick in IPL's history. He joined Kolkata Knight Riders for a huge sum of Rs 24.75 crore in the IPL 2024 mini-auction. He joined Delhi Capitals for Rs 11.75 crore in the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
