The Mumbai Indians (MI) registered their first victory of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday (March 31) after thumping Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a whopping margin of eight wickets with 43 balls remaining at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Coming off two defeats in a row, the Hardik Pandya-led side handed a debut to Ashwini Kumar, who had played just two T20 matches in his career before this match. The left-arm pacer added to MI's rich list of uncapped stars as he won the Player of the Match (POTM) after becoming the first Indian to take a four-wicket haul on IPL debut. The 23-year-old dismissed Ajinkya Rahane, Rinku Singh, Manish Pandey, and Andre Russell.
Later, the five-time champions cruised to the target as Ryan Rickleton hit his first-ever IPL half-century while Suryakumar Yadav played a handy cameo of 27 in just nine balls.
Mumbai Indians Break KKR's Massive All-Time Record
The win over KKR is MI's 53rd (including one in a super-over) at the Wankhede Stadium, making them the team with the most wins at a single venue in the league's history. They previously shared the record with the Knight Riderrs, who have 52 matches at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in the history. With six home games left for both sides this season, the record remains attainable for both teams as well as Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who have 51 victories at Chepauk.
