Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) may not have won an Indian Premier League (IPL) title yet, but they have achieved a major milestone by surpassing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to become the most-followed Indian Premier League (IPL) team on Instagram. RCB triumphed over CSK by 50 runs in their own backyard, ending a 17-year jinx.
The last time RCB defeated CSK in Chennai was back in 2008. Post that victory, RCB lost 8 consecutive matches to CSK. RCB have now added another feather in their cap, solidifying their social media dominance.
Instagram followers of IPL teams:
Royal Challengers Bengaluru - 17.8 million
Chennai Super Kings - 17.7 million
Mumbai Indians - 16.2 million
Kolkata Knight Riders - 7 million
Sunrisers Hyderabad - 5.1 million
Rajasthan Royals - 4.7 million
Gujarat Titans - 4.5 million
Delhi Capitals - 4.3 million
Punjab Kings - 3.7 million
Lucknow Super Giants - 3.5 million
Currently, RCB sits at the top spot in the points table with 4 points. Delhi Capitals also have 4 points but their NRR is lesser than RCB's. RCB willl make their on-field return against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 2, 2025.
RCB, who have been part of IPL since its inception, have finished as runners-up three times - in 2009, 2011, and 2016 - each time losing to different teams in the final. Despite these near-misses, the franchise boasts a massive fanbase across the cricketing fraternity.
RCB fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate, flooding the platform with love and warm wishes for Virat Kohli and the team. The franchise also enjoys strong support on other social media platforms. RCB have 7.3 million followers on X and 10 million followers on Facebook.
