Mumbai Indians (MI) are hosting Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their first home game of the IPL 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday (March 31). The Mumbai fans were elated with the T20 league returning to the city after a year. They were also excited to see Sachin Tendulkar. The India legend joined the team during the preparations and was seated next to Rahul Sanghvi, MI's director of cricket, during the match.
Sachin has had a long association with MI and he has been part of the MI family since IPL's inception. He isn't MI's coach and has a part-time role. Here, we have a look at Sachin's role and see how he is associated with MI -
Sachin Tendulkar is the icon of Mumbai Indians. He took over the role after his retirement from the T20 league in 2013. Sachin retired after winning the IPL 2013 trophy under Rohit Sharma's captaincy.
He took over MI's icon role before IPL 2014. It isn't a full-time role and Sachin's is like MI's part-time mentor. Unlike head coach Mahela Jayawardene and other coaches, Sachin doesn't have to travel with the team for every game. He didn't travel to UAE for IPL 2020.
Kieron Pollard is MI's batting coach while Lasith Malinga and Paras Mhambrey work as their bowling coaches. Jayawardene made his return to MI before IPL 2025.
Arjun Tendulkar plays for MI
Sachin Tendulkar's son, Arjun Tendulkar plays for Mumbai Indians. He first joined the five-time IPL Champions in the IPL 2021 mini-auction. MI re-signed him in the IPL 2022 mega-auction. The left-arm pacer was handed his debut IPL cap in 2023.
MI re-signed Arjun in the IPL 2025 mega-auction for Rs 30 lakh. He played one game in IPL 2024 and has been on the bench in the ongoing season. With 2 defeats from as many matches, MI sit at the last spot in the points table.
