Mumbai Indians are currently taking on Kolkata Knight Riders in a blockbuster IPL 2025 encounter at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The five-time champions are currently struggling at the bottom of the IPL 2025 table, as they are the only side without a single win on the board. Both teams have announced the playing XI for the encounter, and the big name missing from the MI lineup is none other than the India captain, Rohit Sharma.

Mumbai Indians have won the toss and opted to field first. However, the legendary Indian batter Rohit Sharma is not featuring in the field in the first innings. However, MI fans do not need to worry.

Rohit Sharma is part of the five players who have been nominated by MI as their impact substitutes. Hence, when MI come in to bat in the second innings, it is almost a certainty that Rohit will walk in to open as the impact player. In the first match against the Chennai Super Kings, Rohit Sharma batted in the first innings, but was substituted for impact player Vignesh Puthur when the team came out to field in the second innings.

Rohit Sharma was expected to light the IPL 2025 on fire as he came into the tournament on the back of a Player of the Match winning performance in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025. However, he started off the IPL 2025 on a disastrous note as he scored a duck against CSK. He then followed it up with an 8-run knock against the Gujarat Titans.
