Rohit Sharma was dimissed for 8 in the IPL 2025 game against Gujarat Giants on March 29, 2025.
Sanjay Manjrekar said Rohit Sharma is not the same batter he was three to four years ago. Rohit has not been in good form; he was dismissed for 8 in the IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Saturday, following a duck against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) earlier in the league. MI lost both their games this season.
“Rohit Sharma is clearly going through a phase. He is not the Rohit Sharma of, say, three to four years ago. He has to push himself every morning – train and be at his best – because things are slipping away for him. He is still relying on his natural talent and instincts,” Manjrekar said on JioStar.
Rohit’s form in international cricket has not been better either. Since September 2024, when Bangladesh toured India, Rohit has managed only 52 as his highest score. His performance in the Champions Trophy was nothing extraordinary, as he could manage only one half-century in the tournament – 76 against New Zealand in the final.
Mumbai Indians have been struggling in the IPL this season, with the side not getting a good start from their opening duo, Rohit and South African Ryan Rickelton.
Manjrekar said Rickelton should be given more time to adjust to the demands of the IPL as he is playing in the T20 league for the first time. "Ryan Rickelton, being a South African, will take time to adjust to Indian pitches. Very few South African batters, barring AB de Villiers and Heinrich Klaasen, have truly flourished on Indian pitches. So, we will have to give him time,” said Manjrekar.
The former India batter, however, said the rest of the MI batting line-up does not look convincing either. “Apart from that, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav, along with Robin Minz and some of the other players, form the batting line-up. However, to me, it still looks a little unconvincing,” said Manjrekar.
