Legendary Australian leg spinner Shane Warne’s mysterious death in Thailand shook the cricketing world three years ago (March 4, 2022). Now, the investigation into Warne’s death has taken a shocking turn, with a new report by Daily Mail claiming a ‘cover-up.’
The report claimed that a senior police officer involved in the investigation was ordered to remove a ‘bottle’ of pills from the room where Warne was found dead. The pills were identified as Kamagra—a drug used for erectile dysfunction treatment.
The drug contains sildenafil citrate, the same ingredient found in Viagra. The report quoted an unnamed police officer who said his senior officers asked him to remove the bottle of pills. He also alleged that officials from Australia might have been involved in the cover-up.
“We were ordered by our seniors to get rid of the bottle. These orders were coming from up high, and I think senior officials from Australia were also involved because they did not want their national figure to have an ending like this,” the police officer was quoted as saying by the London-based tabloid.
“So, the official report came out stating that he suffered a heart attack, with no other details as to what could have caused it. No one will come out to confirm the ‘Kamagra’ because it remains a sensitive subject. There were lots of powerful, invisible hands behind all this,” he added.
“We do not know how much he took. There was also a puddle of vomit and blood at the scene, but we cleared the Kamagra as we were told to,” the officer went on.
The fact that Kamagra is a banned drug in Thailand and how it became so easily available is another question that remains unaddressed. The drug is known for its dangerous side effects, especially for users with serious heart disease. According to a source quoted by the tabloid, the drug can be fatal for users with "congenital heart weakness".
Warne’s body was found on Koh Samui Island in Thailand, where he was holidaying. The autopsy report by Surat Thani Hospital at the time found that Warne had died of natural causes and ruled out any foul play. The Australian government later brought his body back to Australia, where he was given a state funeral at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on March 30, 2022.
