Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians (MI) suffered their second consecutive defeat of IPL 2025 after they failed to chase a target of 197 against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Saturday (March 29). MI never seemed to be in contention to chase the target and they registered their fourth defeat against GT at their home. MI are yet to win a game there.
Captain Hardik sent a blunt message to his batsmen after the defeat and said that "batters have come to the party." MI's batting has been below-par in the ongoing season.
"At the moment we all need to take responsibility, it's still early stages. Batters have to come to the party, hopefully they do that soon. On this wicket they (slower deliveries) were the toughest balls, some were shooting, some were bouncing, as batters it becomes difficult. They (GT bowlers) did what I did with the ball," he said after the game. Hardik didn't mention any batsman's name.
None of the MI batters have managed to score more than 100 runs in the season. With 77 runs, Suryakumar Yadav is MI's highest run-scorer. He is followed by Tilak Varma, who has scored 70 runs. With 35 runs, Naman Dhir sits at the third spot.
Former MI captain Rohit Sharma departed for a duck in MI's opening game against Chennai Super Kings and he managed to score two boundaries against Gujarat Titans.
With 2 defeats from as many matches, MI sit at the 9th spot in the points table. Rajasthan Royals (RR) have also lost both their matches and are at the last position.
MI will now travel to their home and host defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on March 31. They will take on Lucknow Super Giants on April 4 in an away game and then return to Mumbai to host Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 7.
