Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner, Sanjiv Goenka was on cloud nine after his team defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to register its maiden win of IPL 2025. An elated Goenka hugged LSG captain, Rishabh Pant on the field. Even though Rishabh failed with the bat, his field placements and bowling changes did wonders for the Lucknow-based franchise

A year ago, an upset Goenka had an animated chat with former captain KL Rahul after their 10-wicket defeat against SRH. Rishabh's LSG took revenge by defeating the Orange Army at their home.

LSG took a surprising call to bowl first at the high-scoring venue. Shardul Thakur pushed SRH to the backfoot early by dismissing Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan on back-to-back deliveries.

Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy added 61 runs for the third wicket to bring the home team back into the game. Aniket Verma's quick 36 off 13 balls took them to a total of 190. Shardul scalped 4 wickets while other bowlers took a wicket each.

After the fall of the early wicket, LSG bounced back strongly and Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh added 116 runs for the second wicket in just 43 balls. Pooran smashed a brilliant 70 off 26 balls while Marsh hit 52 off 31. Rishabh departed for 15 off as many balls.

Abdul Samad completed the chase early with his unbeaten 22 off just 8 balls. Batting with a strike rate of 275.00, he hit 2 sixes and as many boundaries in his knock. Speaking at the toss, Rishabh was confident of chasing down any target and his team walked the talk.

"We will bowl first. I think we got to get them out early and look to chase the target. It depends on the team combination, that's why we want to bowl first. We have the batting to chase it down. The only change is Avesh comes back, Shahbaz misses out. We gonna chase whatever they score, doesn't matter," he said.
