- Stubbs' dismissal was caused by a new rule
The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL)'s new rule led to a game-changing moment in the clash between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the ACA-VDCA (Andhra Cricket Association/Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association) on Monday (March 24) as Tristan Stubbs was dismissed by Manimaran Siddharth.
In the 13th over of the game, Stubbs launched a counter-attack on the Super Giants and smashed Siddharth for two sixes. The second was a big, one that went miles over the boundary line. It was at this point that the umpires took a bold call and decided to change the ball allowing the fielding team to be awarded a second new ball post the 11th over of the second innings if the umpires determined that the ball was extremely wet due to the dew forming on the outfield.
What Happened After The Ball Change?
The new ball, which was dry immediately played in LSG's favour as Siddharth made the ball grip and turn and bamboozled Stubbs. The South African star departed after making 34 runs in 21 balls.

What Does BCCI's New Rule Say?
"To address challenges posed by dew during evening matches, the team bowling second will now have the option to request a ball change once after the 10th over. The bowling captain can make this request, regardless of whether there is visible dew or not. Once the request is made, the umpires will mandatorily replace the ball with another one of similar wear and tear. The bowling team will not have the liberty to choose the replacement ball.
"Additionally, the umpires retain the authority to change the ball at any time before the 10th over if it is deemed too wet, out of shape, lost, or damaged. If a captain requests a ball change in the 11th over due to it being out of shape, the umpires will evaluate the request and approve it if deemed necessary. ·If a subsequent request is made after a few overs solely due to dew, the umpires will be required to replace the ball mandatorily as stated earlier," said a statement by the BCCI.
