Rishabh Pant will make his debut for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) when they take on Delhi Capitals (DC) in their first match of IPL 2025. The wicketkeeper-batsman joined the Lucknow-based franchise for a record price of Rs 27 crore and was appointed their captain. Interestingly, he is the former DC captain and will make his captaincy debut for LSG against his previous team.

Rishabh will overtake Yuvraj Singh and Steve Smith in an elite list when he walks out for the toss against DC. He will go past them in the list of captains with most matches in IPL.

Yuvraj, Smith and Dinesh Karthik played 43 matches as the captain. Rishabh, who made his IPL captaincy debut in 2021, will be playing his 44th match as the captain on Monday (March 24).

Rishabh started his IPL captaincy journey in the first phase of IPL 2021. He replaced Shreyas Iyer, who was ruled out of the season due to a shoulder issue. Rishabh retained captaincy even when Iyer returned for the second phase of the season.

DC retained Rishabh before the IPL 2022 mega-auction and didn't change their captain. He made his return as DC's captain in IPL 2024. He was part of the IPL 2025 mega-auction and joined LSG for a record-breaking amount. DC tried to re-sign him but missed out after LSG raised his bid to Rs 27 crore. Rishabh captained DC to 23 wins from 43 matches.

Talking of LSG, they are yet to play an IPL final. LSG made their IPL debut in 2022 and roped in KL Rahul as their first pick. Rahul-led LSG made it to the second round of IPL 2022 and 2023. Krunal Pandya led LSG in the second half of IPL 2023 after an injury to Rahul. They crashed out of the league stage of IPL 2024.
