  • Ishan Kishan scored a 45-ball century on his SRH debut
  • SRH broke a world record of the Indian cricket team
The devasting duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head found an able company in Ishan Kishan as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) started the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) from where they left in 2024. The 2024 runner-up posted a massive total of 286 on the board against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday (March 23) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
RR stand-in skipper Riyan Parag won the toss and decided to bowl first, the decision backfired as Kishan scored a century on debut for SRH. The Indian wicket-keeper batter made an unbeaten knock of 106 in just 47 balls at a strike-rate of 225.33 with 11 boundaries and six sixes.
Earlier, Head gave SRH a solid platform with a quick-fire 31-ball 67. He put up a 45-run opening stand with Abhishek Sharma, who made 24 runs in just 11 balls. Heinrich Klaasen started the season with a 14-ball 34 while Nitish Kumar Reddy played a handy hand of 30 in just 15 balls.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Break Indian Cricket Team's World Record

SRH's total of 286 is the second-highest in the history of the league and only one run behind their own record (287) which was set against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru last year. This is the fourth instance of SRH crossing the 250-run mark in IPL history and they now hold the record for having four of the sixth-highest totals in IPL history.

SRH RR 2025 Hyderabad
SRH MI 2024 Hyderabad

SRH DC 2024 Delhi

SRH is not just the first franchise in IPL history to score a total above 250 but the first team in world cricket to achieve the feat. While no team in the world's richest cricket league apart from SRH has breached the 250-run mark more than twice in IPL history, Surrey and the Indian cricket team have done it thrice in the shortest format. The English county achieved the feat in the T20 Blast while the Men in Blue did it in international cricket, out of which two came in 2024. In fact, the Men in Blue set a total of 297 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad last year with Sanju Samson scoring a century.
India, Zimbabwe, Czech Republic and Japan are the only teams to achieve the feat multiple times in international cricket

SRH Equal Royal Challengers Bengaluru's 9-Year-Old Record

SRH reached the 200-run mark against RR in just 14.1 overs (85) and set the record for being the joint-quickest team to reach the milestone in an innings. The one-time champions equalled a record set by RCB in 2016 when they took the same amount of time to reach 200 against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium. It is worth noting that Virat Kohli scored a century in that match which was reduced to a 15-over affair due to rain.

The 2016 champions now hold the record for having three of the five fastest powerplays in history. In the list of teams to reach the 100-run mark quickest in an innings, SRH have three entries in the top five.
