New Zealand continued their domination over Pakistan and registered a comfortable win over the Men in Green to extend their lead to 2-0. Chasing a target of 136, NZ did the job in 13.1 overs with 5 wickets left. NZ made a cautious start to their innings and did not score any run in the first over bowled by Shaheen Afridi.
Finn Allen smashed 18 runs in the second over. Allen's heroics inspired Tim Seifert and the NZ opener, who did not score any runs in the first over, smashed Shaheen Afridi for 4 sixes in his second over.
The right-handed batsman smashed a big hit on the first ball of the third over and followed up with another six. He scored 2 runs off the next 2 balls. Seifert hit back-to-back sixes to end Afridi's second over.
Courtesy of Seifert's blitz, NZ breached the 50-run mark in just 4 overs. The opening pair of Seifert and Allen put on 66 runs for the first wicket in 4.4 overs. Seifert departed for 45 while Allen scored a crucial 38 off just 16 balls. Mitchell Hay remained unbeaten on 21 off 16 balls as NZ chased down the target with ease.
Earlier in the game, Pakistan once again got off to a forgettable start and lost early wickets. Hasan Nawaz departed without opening his account while Mohammad Haris scored 11 off 10 balls. Pakistan captain Salman Agha hit 46 off 28 balls.
Shadab Khan's 26 and Afridi's unbeaten 22 off 14 balls took Pakistan to a defendable total of 135. The match was shortened to 15 overs due to rain.
NZ, who now lead the five-match series 2-0, are just a win away from completing the series win. The remaining three matches are must-win for Pakistan and a defeat will mark another series defeat for them. The two teams will lock horns in 3 ODIs after the T20I series.
