Indian off-spinner Varun Chakravarthy has seemingly responded to Pakistan's Abrar Ahmed's social media post while also addressing criticisms regarding India's perceived travel advantage in the Champions Trophy.
Chakravarthy posted a picture of himself with the Champions Trophy and a cup of coffee, captioning it, "A lot of distance was travelled to get a taste of this Cup." This post was widely interpreted as an indirect dig at claims that India benefited from a "travel-free schedule" during the tournament.
Furthermore, Chakravarthy's post was also perceived as a retort to Abrar Ahmed, who recently posted a picture of himself enjoying tea captioned, "Last cup of Fantastic evening tea" - suspected as a reference to Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, an Indian pilot.
Chakravarthy did most of the damage for India during the recently concluded Champions Trophy.
Reflecting on his performance, he said, "It was a sudden inclusion (on being part of the XI from the league match against New Zealand), I didn't expect it to turn out like this, it's a dream come true. The spin was less in the first innings and we had to be very disciplined and stick to the stumps."
The mystery spinner scalped 9 wickets in 3 matches to play a key role in India's success. But he wasn't named in the provisional Champions Trophy squad. The decision to include Varun on the cutoff date did wonders for India and they remained undefeated en route to the final. The mystery spinner took a five-fer in his first Champions Trophy game against New Zealand.
