AB de Villiers made a memorable return to cricket and slammed a century off just 28 balls during his first professional game in four years. de Villiers, who quit professional cricket after IPL 2021, made his on-field return for Titan Legends at the SuperSport Park in South Africa. The former South Africa captain turned back the clock and slammed 15 sixes. Interestingly, his knock didn't include even one boundary.
Even the opposition team enjoyed de Villiers' ton and the players congratulated him when he completed his century with a six. Courtesy of de Villiers' ton, Titans Legends registered a huge total of 278/7 on the board. Bulls Legends were 125/8 after 14 overs when the rain arrived.
It was a memorable return for de Villiers, who recently hinted that his kids want to see him play. Though he isn't eyeing a return to IPL. "I might still play cricket one day. No confirmation whatsoever. My kids are putting me under a bit of pressure and I feel like I could go to the nets with them," de Villiers said.
"I am talking on a more serious note, actually, of playing some real cricket not professional IPL or SA20 stuff but who knows? I have had my fair share, that's done."
de Villiers played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is. He announced a shock retirement from international cricket in May 2018. He wanted to make a return for the 2019 ODI World Cup but his offer was rejected by Cricket South Africa.
de Villiers had a long IPL career and he was a regular in the T20 league from 2008 to 2021. He was part of Delhi Capitals (then known as Delhi Daredevils) from IPL 2008 to 2010. He joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2011 mega-auction and stayed with them till his retirement. He never captained an IPL team.
