Rohit Sharma roared back in form with 32nd ODI century

Indian captain Rohit Sharma silenced critics and ended a barren run of form with a sublime century against England in the 2nd ODI on Sunday (February 9) at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack to power India to a series victory with a six-wicket victory.
The Indian captain hit the 32nd ODI century of his career and reached the milestone in just 76 balls to set the stage for India to comfortably chase down the target of 305. Rohit finished with a knock of 119 runs in 90 balls at a strike rate of 132.22, which included 12 boundaries and seven maximums.

Rohit's century in Cuttack was his 36th in international cricket across formats after his 30th birthday. This means that the 37-year-old has now set the record for the most centuries by an Indian player after turning 30. Previously, Sachin Tendulkar held the record with 35 tons in his 30's.

Rohit Sharma Sets Massive World Record

Rohit also etched his name in the history books by setting the world record for the most ODI tons by a player after his 30th birthday. Rohit is the first player to score 22 centuries in the 50-over format after his 30th birthday. Previously, Sri Lankan cricket legends Sanath Jayasuriya and Tilakartene Dilshan shared the record.

Alongside his 22 ODI tons, Rohit also has scored 10 centuries in Test cricket and four in T20s since his 30th birthday, which he celebrated on 30th April 2017. Across the world, only Kumar Sangakkara (43) has reached the three-figure mark more times in international cricket after turning 30 than Rohit while Ricky Ponting and Matthew Hayden (36) are level with him.
During his sublime knock in Cuttack, Rohit scored his 49th international century and went past Rahul Dravid (48) to become the third-most prolific century-hitter in international cricket. He surpassed Chris Gayle (331) and is nearing Shahid Afrid's (351) world record for the most sixes in ODI cricket history.
