Yashasvi Jaiswal had a brilliant 2024 and many have considered him as the next big thing of Indian cricket. After making a mark in Tests and T20Is, Jaiswal finally made his ODI debut in the first game of the three-match series vs England. However, he did not have a great debut getting out for just 15 runs. While many have labelled him the ideal successor to the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar has lavished praise on someone else entirely.
In a post on his X account, Sanjay Manjrekar labelled Shubman Gill as 'Lambi race ka ghoda' (one for the future). This was after the 25-year-old batter starred for India in the first ODI with an 86-run knock which earned him the Player of the Match award. Manjrekar also said that Gill will be around for a long time in Indian cricket.
“We had a term in the team ‘Lambi race ka Ghoda’ for certain players. Meaning someone who will be around for a long time in Indian cricket. That’s what Shubman Gill is!" he added.

India Seal Massive Win Vs England

However, India started picking up wickets at regular intervals, as they were bundled out for 248. Ravindra Jadeja and Harshit Rana picked up 3 wickets each, while Jacob Bethell and Jos Buttler scored half-centuries.
India chased the target down in 38.4 overs with 4 wickets to spare. Shubman Gill won the Player of the Match for his brilliant 86-run knock. Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel also chipped in with half-centuries. Virat Kohli did not play the game after being ruled out due t a swollen knee.
